When ume starts blooming, it is the sign for the beginning of Spring. Japanese people see this flower and start waiting for cherry blossom.
Ume (the plum) has been used for food in many ways such as Pickle (Umeboshi) , sake (Ume-shu) , Vinegar, jam and dry fruits. We can say one of the core ingredients and ornament for Japanese food as well.
Also, the tradition of the flower is deep and long. Ume has appeared in many Japanese drawing, Kimono, Japanese songs and writing.
