Description
Since 1916, NOUSAKU began manufacturing Buddhist altars, tea sets, and flower vases, later adding tableware, interior products, and construction metals to its lineup. Despite their seemingly simple appearance, it often requires multiple steps by our skilled craftsmen. Fine appearance of wind bells and table wares are due to our advanced casting technique and refined finishing. We continue to preserve the values of Takaoka Copper with innovative challenges.
Nousaku takes on new creative challenges themed by material, technique, and design. They recently began projects in collaboration with designers to produce new products with a modern feeling. In terms of technique, their main features include products made from 100% pure tin – renowned for the processing challenges it entails – a hairline finish on brass that requires extremely sophisticated skills, and silicon casting that can create expressive details. Nousaku not only maintains and preserves tradition; they constantly pursue innovation.
Brass Raw casting technique :
An alloy of copper and zinc, brass has been used from around 1000 B.C. Study shows that the Roman Empire used coin made of brass, while in Japan, one of the oldest records is known as items from China in the Nara Period. Nowadays brass is familiar to the Japanese by 5 yen coin, various accessories, interior decorations, and architectural hardwares. It has also been used in Buddhist altars, tea utensils, and instruments.
Products express a range of textures; from rough, cast surfaces to polished mirror finish or plated. Our wind bells offer the fineness of material and clear ringing sound. Each item being hand finished by our craftsmen, we ask you to enjoy these sophisticated traditionally-made items.
